Mothers & More: Local and National
One of the ways that Mothers & More is a truly unique mom's group is the many resources we have for our members--both locally and nationally.
Locally
Every month, our chapter organizes a variety of activities to support, entertain and engage you-the caregiver.
Chapter Meetings:
We come together for evening meetings to build
friendships, learn from one another, and share the joys, triumphs and hardships
of motherhood. Our meetings typically occur the second Wednesday at every month at Merrill Gardens Retirement
Home in Mill Creek. Meetings are generally for moms only, but babies age six months and
younger are welcome. We have a great mix of meetings featuring speakers (both
members and non-members), social “get-to-know-each-other” meetings, and group
discussions.
Our mission guides our programming to encompass a wide
variety of topics such as:
• Personal
Identity
• Career
Paths, paid and volunteer
• Personal
Relationships
• Financial
Literacy
• And
More!
We try to organize meeting topics around a variety of topics, that include but aren't limited to parenting and mothering.
Moms Night Out:
Mom’s Night Out is an event
just with the mom in mind. The last Friday or Saturday of each month, we meet
for dinner at a local restaurant, a movie at one of several area theaters, or
go out together for some other social activity. Mom’s Night Out is a great
opportunity to get out, enjoy the company. Sometimes we really need that date on the calendar to get us out the door!
Playgroups:
One a week, a member hosts a multi-age playgroup in their home or meets out and about at a community pool, museum or play cafe. Our summer park play date series has been going for four years now. In the Pacific Northwest, you need to take advantage of the sun! Once a month, we try to hold a weekend or evening playdate. Also, members also use our message boards to spontaneously meet up when they need some adult conversation.
Family Activities:
Summer BBQ, Halloween Party, Easter Party, we host several gathering throughout the year to bring the whole family together.
Coffee Night:
We meet on the third Tuesday
each month for Coffee Night at the Spotted Cow at Mill Creek Towne Center where
there is a play area for the kids while moms enjoy chatting and ice cream,
coffee or a glass of wine.
Special Interest Groups (scrap n' yap, weight loss moms):
These groups meet once a month in members' homes to connect on topics of special interest to our members. We start new interest groups all time when three or more members show an interest in starting a new group.
Mothers' Retreat:
Once a year, we escape for an overnight where we can reconnect with ourselves. Planned activities are limited so that members can pursue interests of their choice. But we always make sure that the food is good and the company is better. Activities of previous retreats have included nature walks, campfire, personal strength workshop, scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, creative writing, and board games.
TLC:
Sometimes being a mom is tough; that's why we have a team dedicated to supporting our members when they need a little extra help. The TLC Team coordinates all
kinds of support activities to facilitate our members helping each other during
times of stress. We’ve brought
meals, flowers, cards and more when a member mom is in need due to a pregnancy,
new baby, illness, emergency, or any other event that would leave a mom and/or
family needing a helping hand. TLC programs include: Meals to New Moms; Mystery Moms Program (like secret santa throughout the year); and Mentor Moms (pairing new members with established members to help introduce you to the group.)
Advocacy and Community Service:
We let our members know about policies that impact mothers such as the state's new family leave act and organize community outreach activities like food drives and collecting clothes for Dress for Success.
Web site Community:
In our Web site forums, we discuss our rants and raves and give each other ideas for how to manage our kids from potty training to preschool; from discipline to first kisses; we arrange spontaneous play dates and borrow gear from one another. Any time you want to talk, the group is only a click away.
